David specialises in advising on professional and financial lines insurance risks particularly audit risk defence, regulatory and claims coverage.

David represents professionals across a range of sectors where his instructions include defending complex, high value claims against accountants and auditors, particularly where professional reputations are at stake. David has advised and represented auditors and accountants of all sizes on a broad spectrum of matters in Hong Kong. With prior experience as legal counsel of the AFRC, he has had unique first hand involvement in regulatory investigations and setting up regulatory frameworks, particularly in relation to accountants and auditors, in addition to having previously advised clients on regulatory investigations as part of his practice.

Having commenced his career as an insolvency practitioner and with the unique perspective that role provided him, David also regularly acts for liquidators in relation to insolvency related matters including advising on insolvency related investigations and powers.  

David regularly speaks at and teaches courses for the HKICPA on audit, accounting and insolvency related matters. David is also an examiner for the HKICPA insolvency diploma course.

  • Advising on and representing various auditors and audit firms in defending against claims of audit negligence brought by liquidators alleging a failure in discovering and exposing false trading, misappropriations and fraud
  • Advising on and responding to AFRC investigations into various audit related matters from access to audit working papers particularly those located in the Mainland, accounting treatment of transactions, the appropriateness of audit procedures and on allegations of conflicts of interests
  • Advising and representing creditors, liquidators and trustees in various proceedings including winding up petitions, applications for examination of parties and claw back of assets
  • Advising and representing solicitors in defending against allegations of professional negligence
  • Regulatory matters including in relation to the SFC, Insurance Authority, HKMA, AFRC and the Privacy Commissioner
